First appearing about 2000 years ago during the Spring and Autumn Period of China, hanging coffin is a unique funeral and sacrifice custom of the minority groups in southern China. With nearly 300 well-preserved hanging coffins, Hanging Coffins of Bo People in Gongxian County of Sichuan is known as China’s natural museum of hanging coffins. This tour will show you the real unknown mystery of the vanished ancient minority in China.


Day 1Chengdu - Gongxian

Meals provided: lunch + dinner
Accommodation: a local guest house

In the early morning, your guide and driver from Sichuan Adventure will meet you at your hotel and head for Yibin from Chengdu through the expressway, and on the way you’ll see the beautiful countryside of south Sichuan.

Have lunch in Yibin and then continue to drive to the hanging coffins, and after arriving at Luobiao, which is the name of the small town where the hanging coffins are. Take a walk around the town and stay overnight there.

Day 2Goxian - Zigong

Meals provided: breakfast + lunch + dinner

Today you’ll explore the mystery of the hanging coffins around the mountains, and you may take your time to walk round this beautiful and mysterious area.

The Bo people were an ethnic minority group living along the borders of today’s Sichuan and Yunnan Province who created a brilliant culture as early as 3,000 years ago, however, their civilization ended with the mysterious disappearance of the Bo people. Now only the hanging coffins and the paintings they left behind on the cliffs remind people they used to exist.

When you finish your visit, drive to Zigong for overnight.

Day 3Zigong - Chengdu

Meals provided: breakfast + lunch

In the morning visit the two interesting museums in Zigong. The first one is the Dinosaur Museum with fossils of dinosaurs discovered in 1972. It is one of the three most famous dinosaur museums in the world, the other two are the Dinosaur National Monument in the US and Canada Dinosaur Park.

The Salt History Museum is about the history of getting salt from underground wells as well as the advanced technology and tools ancient people used in order to get salt from deep underground.

Drive back to Chengdu after lunch, you guide and driver will send you back to your hotel, the tour ends.
